Guide Review - Sightron S1 3x-9x 40mm Rifle Scope
The Sightron S1 scope surprised me. I was in a pinch and needed a scope, and my budget was low. I had heard good things about Sightron, so I gave them a try, at almost $100 less than other scopes I'd been using. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality, and found it to be even brighter than some of my more expensive scopes. I hunted with it almost exclusively for the following deer hunting season, and it served me well.
Adjustments are easy - just unscrew the covers and turn the adjusters by hand, no coin or screwdriver required. Adjustments are in 1/4-minute clicks, which is usually standard, though not on some manufacturers newer, cheaper, lines (which still cost more than the Sightron).
I compared the Sightron to a number of other scopes, including Redfield, Nikon, Burris, and Leupold, at dusk one evening. I set all scopes at 6x and scoped a dark patch of brush with them all, switching back and forth for comparison. The Sightron beat most for brightness and clarity, and was the equal of those it didn't beat.
During the past hunting season, I made three good shots on game with the Savage 308 rifle I mounted the scope on. Each shot was true and all game was recovered, including a whitetail shot through the heart at 137 yards. The rifle and scope accomapnied me to the woods in all kinds of weather - cold, hot, dry, rainy - and it didn't cause me any problems.
I'll continue to hunt with my Sightron, with confidence.
