Vital-Shok Barnes Tipped Expander
Federal introduces a new nontoxic waterfowl load, the Black Cloud FS Steel. It features the FliteControl wad for longer range and FliteStopper steel for increased knockdown power. The 12-guage is available in 3" and 3-1/2", with a variety of shot loads.
The Vital-Shok Barnes Tipped Expander shotgun slug is now available with a polymer tip. For use in fully rifled barrels only, the new load is available in 12 and 20 gauge.
With the approved use of several new tungsten-based shot types for waterfowl, Federal offers extra-dense Ultra-Shok Heavyweight. The 12-guage is offered in 3" and 3-1/2" sizes.
Federal adds three loads to its Gold Medal Sporting Clays line. The 12-gauge, 1-ounce loads feature one-piece hulls and 12S3 wads, while delivering 1,290 fps velocity.
In rifle ammunition, Federal is offering V-Shok .204 Ruger with a 32-grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet. In the Vital-Shok line, Federal is introducing a 140-grain Barnes TSX-Bullet in 7mm Rem. Mag., 7mm-08 and .280 Rem. Also in Vital-Shok, the Nosler AccuBond is now offered in .30-03 Springfield 150-grain and .308 Win. 165-grain.
In Vital-Shok handgun ammunition, Federal introduces a new .460 S&W cartridge, featuring a 275-grain Barnes Expander bullet.

Federal Premium® is adding another top-notch Barnes® shotgun slug to its lineup to offer rifled-barrel shotgun shooters a more accurate and aerodynamic option. The Barnes Expander™ Tipped Sabot Slug is a truly long-range slug and pushes the limits of shotgun slug technology. It will be available in 20 and 12-gauge loads.
There’s no disputing the outstanding performance of the Barnes Expander shotgun slug. For accuracy, weight retention and expansion, it is the slug hunter’s choice. The new Tipped Expander provides a higher ballistic coefficient for outstanding downrange ballistics and enhances expansion at longer ranges. For the fully-rifled shotgun user, there is no better load.
Shotshell engineer Rochelle Poore is responsible for taking this top-of-the line slug product and making it better with the high-quality components and overall Premium® quality Federal is known for. “The original Barnes Expander slug has been one of the most accurate slugs we’ve come across in our testing. The combination of Barnes quality and our wad design make a perfect pair and really stretch the legs on fully rifled shotguns—and this tipped option is showing flatter trajectory than the original hollow-point design. It even proves better in accuracy testing—we consistently see 4-inch groups or better at 200-yards.”
The Tipped Expander is available in a 12-gauge, 2-3/4-inch 3/4-ounce and 20-gauge 3-inch, 5/8-ounce offering—both boasting a muzzle velocity of 1900 feet per second.

This super-dense shot originally made its splash on turkey hunters when it was released in Federal’s Mag-Shok line just a few years back. The new Vital-Shok Trophy Bonded Tip big-game bullet is built on the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw platform, with added features. A neon, translucent poly-carbonate tip and boat-tail design are combined with a solid copper shank. It is available in 15 calibers for 2008.
TNT Green brings non-tox technology to the V-Shok line. The lead-free bullet will initially be offered in .222, .22-250 and .223.
Federal is extending its offering of the TSX-Bullet, adding a new Delrin Tip for 2008. A lead-free bullet, the Tipped TSXTM is designed to reduce pressure and barrel fouling. It is available in four calibers and weights.
For big-game hunters, Federal introduces a new caliber with a heavy bullet, the .370 Sako Magnum. Federal has two options: a 286-grain Barnes TSXTM and a 286-grain Nosler Partition.
Introduced last year, Federal’s Black Cloud, with steel shot technology, caught the attention of waterfowlers, including the Duck Commander, Phil Robertson. For 2008, Robertson is endorsing a special load. The Duck Commander’s image is on the box of special edition #3 Black Cloud loads.
For 2008, Federal offers two additional 12-gauge loads for the Barnes Tipped Expander slug. Last year marked the first time Federal gave the Barnes Expander shotgun slug a tip. For use in fully rifled barrels only.
Federal, in conjunction with Ruger, introduces the new .327 Federal Magnum. The Federal Premium Personal Defense offering is an 85-grain Hydra-Shok. It also will be available in an American Eagle 100-grain soft point for practice.
Federal also is introducing Wing-Shok Steel to complement its Wing-Shok Pheasants Forever lead loads. They provide a non-lead option for hunting in designated non-tox areas. Wing-Shok Steel is available in 12 and 20 gauge. A portion of the profits from every box of the Wing-Shok Pheasants Forever loads goes to Pheasants Forever.

Federal Premium® Introduces Trophy Bonded® Tip, the New Standard in Big Game Bullets
Federal Premium® has combined the latest in bullet technology with proven performance to bring big game hunters the Trophy Bonded® Tip. This new offering is built on the heralded Trophy Bonded® Bear Claw® platform and adds numerous features for a substantial increase in performance—available summer 2008.
The first and most noticeable addition is a neon, translucent polymer tip. This is coupled with a boat-tail design for flat trajectory and improved accuracy. Because it’s built on the Bear Claw’s proven platform, the new Trophy Tip has the jacket bonded to the core for high weight retention and a solid copper shank to crush bone. “We wanted to really raise the bar for bullet performance with the new Trophy Bonded Tip,” said project lead Larry Head. “So we worked very hard to develop a bullet that had it all. The result is an accurate, flat-shooting and tough bullet that meets all the demands of today’s big game hunter.”
The Trophy Tip is unique in that it combines several different bullet technologies in one projectile. Another improvement to this bullet is exterior skiving on the nickel-plated bullet that provides optimum expansion at a variety of ranges. The load also features a nickel plated case and bullet for easy extraction and corrosion protection. Available in a full-line of offerings for 2008.

Continuing this tradition, the new Barnes® Tipped Triple-Shock X-Bullet™ offerings feature a Delrin tip and hyper-velocities for extremely flat shooting. Available fall of 2008.
This lead-free bullet is a proven performer in the field, and offers improved expansion and deep penetration. As turkey loads have been engineered to pattern more tightly and reach farther, they have also become less forgiving at close range, leading to missed birds. New Federal Premium® 3rd Degree™ uses a multi-shot, three-stage payload to deliver lethal patterns at any range. The leading section of the payload-20 percent of the total pellet count-is made up of No. 6 nickel-plated FLITESTOPPER® lead. Because these pellets release from the wad first and have a deadly cutting ring, they disperse quickly and create a larger effective pattern inside of 20 yards than standard loads. The next 40 percent of the load is copper-plated No. 5 lead shot, which creates a dense, even pattern at moderate ranges. The final 40 percent of 3rd Degree's payload consists of No. 7 HEAVYWEIGHT® pellets. The tungsten-iron material's high density gives the shot more energy than No. 5 lead shot at 40 yards and beyond. Plus, its increased pellet count results in more hits on target at long range. The pattern is maximized by the FLITECONTROL® wad, which opens from the rear and stays with the shot column longer than conventional wads for full, consistent patterns.
