Due Jensens vildthegn skal væk
Forrige
Dato: 23/11-2005

Posted by: Great Dane - 24-11-2005, 02:04 AM - Forum: Off topic - Svar (24)

Posted by: Great Dane - 24-11-2005, 01:12 AM - Forum: Danske nyheder - Ingen svar

Sakset fra jægerforbundets side

http://www.jaegerforbundet.dk/384/39/1/2191

165 fasaner i strandkanten [xx(]

Dato: 23/11-2005

Ud over oprydningen er det dog ikke meget, Arne Greve har kunnet gøre i sagen. Men han ser meget gerne, at man finder frem til vedkommende, der står bag. Det er der for øvrigt også andre, der gør;

21-11-2005 - 08:17 BCC NEWS: Sparrow death mars record attempt
Not since Cock Robin has the death of a tiny bird caused such emotion.

The shooting of a sparrow on the set of a Dutch world record domino-toppling attempt sparked outrage among animal lovers and led to threats to staff.

TV firm Endemol said it felt "terrible" about the killing. The head of a bird protection agency appealed for calm.

A special website received thousands of messages of condolence, but some say the bird did not do itself any favours by knocking over 23,000 dominoes.

The bird's detour into the exhibition centre in the northern city of Leeuwarden earlier this week proved disastrous. Staff had spent weeks setting up four million dominoes.

The bird's fate was sealed when it knocked over 23,000 and organisers feared it could knock down more. An exterminator cornered the sparrow and shot it.

Watch the record breaking attempt

The backlash followed as soon as the news got out - especially as the common house sparrow was put on the endangered list in the Netherlands last year.

It is something we regret but it was a hard decision to make
Jeroen van Waardenberg,
Endemol

A tribute website was set up attracting more than 24,000 hits, the Dutch animal protection agency threatened to investigate, and radio stations offered bounties for anyone who could knock down more of the dominoes before the event.

But Big Brother creators Endemol said things started to get out of hand when staff started receiving threats.

"It was something we wish would never have happened at all," Endemol spokesman Jeroen van Waardenberg told the BBC News website. "But we made a decision because the project was very important to us and is to be screened in 16 countries."

The organisers of the event say they broke their own record of 3,992,397 dominoes, set last year, by successfully felling 4,155,476.

Guinness World Records, which verifies and publishes world record data, has yet to approve the new record.

The TV show's creator, Robin Paul Weijers, said there were "mixed emotions" over the new record. "We all feel terrible abut what happened," he said.

Hans Peeters of the Dutch Bird Protection Agency appeared on Friday's television programme and said that though it was a "very sad incident" it had "been blown out of all proportion".

"I just wish we could channel all this energy that went into one dead sparrow into saving the species," he said.

CCI Introduces 17 Mach 2

The world of 17 caliber rimfire shooting fun just got better. The 17 Mach 2 is a 22 LR CCI Stinger® case necked down to hold a 17 caliber bullet. CCI Introduces New MIL-SPEC Rifle Primers

CCI previously offered rifle primers featuring military sensitivity for reloading military duplication ammo. For 2005, those are replaced with the new CCI MIL-SPEC Primers. These new primers meet EVERY requirement of MIL-P- 46610E, the technical data package that defines the primers the U.S. specifies for all its service ammo. Finish, raw materials, anvil shape, and all other aspects of the U.S. M34 and M41 primers are matched detail for detail.
Of course, we also matched the sensitivity specifications. MIL-SPEC primers are recommended for ammunition used in semi-automatic military-style firearms where these primers, in conjunction with proper loading techniques, contribute to reducing the chance of a slam-firing event. CCI MIL-SPEC primers are Magnum primers for igniting military ball powders and use the same reloading data as CCI 250 and 450 Magnum primers.

Researchers: Usinc Acid Caused Elk Deaths

RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) -- Wyoming wildlife biologists and federal researchers have identified the chemical responsible for the death of hundreds of elk in southern Wyoming last year.

They say usinc acid, a substance found in lichen the elk ate, is responsible for the deaths of perhaps as many as 600 elk in a die-off that began in February 2004.

"It started with a couple of coyote hunters finding an elk that was alive but couldn't get up," said Terry Kreeger, supervisor of veterinary services at the Wyoming Department of Game and Fish. "Our people went out and found other elk down. They've look at you, but they couldn't move. You could pat them on the head."

Wildlife workers eventually found 327 dead elk on the prairie, Game and Fish biologist Greg Hiatt said. About 80 percent of them here cow elk.

"But we know we didn't find all of the bodies," Hiatt said. "Our best estimate would be that 500 or 600 died."

The cause of death had baffled scientists at the time. They took blood samples and ran exhaustive tests and dozens of lab experiments looking for poisons, toxins, viruses and deadly bacteria but found nothing.

A break came when a Wyoming biologist found an article from 1964 in which lichen was blamed for sickness and death in cattle and sheep.

"We went back out and collected bags and bags of the lichen, maybe 100 pounds or so," Kreeger said. "We had three captive elk in Jackson Hole and we brought them to our Laramie lab and began feeding them the lichen."

Two of those elk ate the lichen and died, one after eight days and one on the 10th day after feeding began. The third elk refused to eat the lichen and is still alive in a pasture at the lab.

"Two ate the lichen and died, one didn't eat it and was fine," Kreeger said. "That was the absolute smoking-gun proof that the lichen killed the elk."

The elk herd in that area has a range of several hundred square miles and often crosses into Colorado above Craig and Steamboat Springs. Because of the drought that lingered into the winter of 2003-2004, biologists say they believe the elk moved out of their normal winter range into an area filled with the lichen, which grows on rocks and on the ground.

Biologists say that about 300 elk in the herd of 800 didn't eat the lichen and eventually wandered back into their normal range. Hunting restrictions were put on the herd in the 2004 season and its now rebounded to its normal size.

Ten of the elk in the herd now wear radio collars. Last winter they didn't come back into the area where they found the lichen and game and fish officials say that if the animals try to come back this winter, they'll chase them out.

Usinc acid was once widely used by bodybuilders to burn fat. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned its use after tests showed it caused liver damage and some human deaths.

"Usinc acid was killing people long before it started killing elk," said researcher John Roach with the FDA in Maryland.

Mere skab hos ræve og hunde
Posted by: ran - 22-11-2005, 05:13 PM - Forum: Danske nyheder - Ingen svar
