DESCRIPTION: Polish Army issue Mannlicher Berthier M.1916 infantry rifle. The buttplate shows Polish regimental markings, "20 PP 878" (20th Infantry Regiment). The rifle is a Polish arsenal post-WWI era rework, with Polish style deep black bluing. All the serial numbers are in the Polish pre-WWII "straight" lettering style, rather than in Italic used by French arsenals. The rifle is a World War One design with five rounds Mannlicher type magazine. It was manufactured by St. Etienne arsenal in 1917, as indicated by markings on the receiver and barrel. Left side of the receiver is marked, "St. Etienne Mle M16". Mismatched numbers. Receiver does not have Balle "N" proof, which is typical for Polish issue rifles. No import markings. CONDITION: Fine, as refurbished by Polish arsenal. Both, wood and metal were refinished by Polish arsenal. 92% of blue is present on metal, changing to light patina in some places. Solid stock with few handling marks (as reworked by Polish arsenal). The serial numbers are only partially visible on the buttstock due to the wood refinishing. One arsenal repair to the handguard, with a small block of wood replaced on its left side and now missing (please, see pictures). Bore is in very good condition. The action works fine. Scarce Berthier rifle with Polish regimental markings!
