You write that it is your 1'st, but isn't it 2 different knives or have you chosen to make 2 different sides on a full tang knife??
A bit of advice: try to make the front piece (forholken) tilt in the same angle as the the blade has where the cutting egde ends (ricassoen). I.e make it tilt forwards is the end of the cutting edge tilts towards the point and make it vertical if the cutting edge ends in a vertical line.
Then you have the option to continue the same angle if you incorporate more than one material in the handle.
