  Zeiss Diarange afstandsmåler/kikkert

Zeiss Victory Diarange M 3–12x56 T* Laser Range-Finding Riflescope is accurate out to 999 yards.
Ask any guide: most hunters are lousy judges of distance. That’s one reason sales of laser range finders are so strong. But often hunters simply don’t have the time to put down their binoculars, pick up a range finder and then acquire the target in their riflescope. Zeiss seeks to make things a whole lot simpler through its new Victory Diarange M 3-12x56 T* Laser Range-Finding Riflescope. The range finder takes only half a second to establish distance and the eye never leaves the ocular lens. It’s accurate out to 999 yards and has been designed for simple, fast and accurate operation, even in low-light situations. The scope uses a rail-mounting system and offers four different illuminated reticles. Available in August 2006. SRP: $4,350. Booth #5429. (800-441-3005; zeiss.com/sports)

150 års fængsel for ulovlig jagt (New Mexico)
Posted by: Kima - 13-02-2006, 10:43 AM - Forum: Danske nyheder - Svar (4)

New Mexico: Non-Typical Outfitters Busted For Illegal Hunting

Adrian Romero and his wife Henrietta, owners and operators of Non-Typical Outfitters of Marquez, New Mexico, were indicted on 66 felony charges in connection with guiding nonresident elk hunters in New Mexico. Charges include racketeering, forgery, fraud, tax evasion and embezzlement.

In news released January 26, it was reported that the Cibola County Grand Jury indicted Adrian Romero on 52 counts of felony charges. He could face 150 years in jail. Henrietta Romero was indicted on 14 counts and could face 50 years in jail. The husband and wife team are accused of forging hunting licenses and hunter’s signatures, arranging and conducting illegal hunts and failing to report gross receipts taxes to the State of New Mexico from 2002 through 2004.

Citing the case as one of New Mexico’s biggest cases of poaching and fraud, District Attorney Lemuel Martinez was quoted as saying, “We hope by prosecuting this case vigorously, we will be sending a message to others who might be considering this kind of activity.” He added, “We need to do everything we can to protect the integrity of our elk herd and our legitimate outfitters.”

In addition to penalties faced by the Romeros, nonresident hunters who harvested animals on hunts conducted by the Romeros may have their trophies seized. Transport of illegally-harvested wildlife across state borders is a federal crime under provisions of the Lacey Act. Hunters who come forward with additional information about Non-Typical Outfitters should contact Dan Williams of the New Mexico Game and Fish Department at 505-476-8000.

  Remington 105 CTi (test)
Posted by: Kima - 13-02-2006, 10:33 AM - Forum: Danske nyheder - Ingen svar

Hot New Shotgun: The Remington 105 CTi
Philip Bourjaily put this new shotgun through its paces this January shooting pheasants, quail, and mallards. Here's his review.
by Philip Bourjaily

Remington’s new 105 CTi autoloader is the most innovative new shotgun I’ve seen in a long time. The company set the standard for all-load autos with the 11-87 almost 20 years ago, but had fallen behind the “B” guns (Browning, Beretta, Benelli). This state-of-the-art auto catches Remington up with the competition and maybe even puts it a step ahead.

What’s so great about this gun? It’s light, for one thing. CTi stands for Carbon/Titanium. The receiver is made from a piece of skeletonized titanium with a carbon fiber insert filling in the holes. The rib is carbon fiber as well. The result is a gun with the solid strength, profile and feel of an 1100/11-87, that weighs a good pound less. The 12 gauge 105 CTi with a 28-inch barrel comes in right about 7 pounds – perfect for carrying all day through waist-deep CRP grasses after pheasants.

You’ll notice, too, that there’s no ejection port in the side of the receiver; the 105 CTi is the first bottom-ejecting autoloader ever made. We left-handers will love that feature, as will trap and skeet shooters, whose empty hulls will be deposited in a neat pile about a yard in front of their toes. Waterfowlers won’t have to worry about bouncing empties off the head of the shooter to their right anymore, either. To load the gun you simply open the bolt and shove a cartridge up the magazine tube. The action shuts automatically, whisking the shell into the chamber.

Finally, the 105 Cti kicks less than any autoloader I’ve ever shot. It has a soft R3 recoil pad on the butt, but the real secret is the unique oil-filled shock absorber called a “rate reducer” in the stock. The rate reducer’s main job is to control the speed of the bolt so the gun can function without beating itself to pieces. The faster the bolt comes back, the more the oil resists. As a pleasant side effect, the rate reducer absorbs the recoil energy of the bolt and other moving parts in the gun. I always believed 1100s and 11-87s to be the softest shooting of all gas guns, but the 105’s recoil is even milder.

In late January, I was one of a group of five writers Remington invited to Deer Creek Lodge in Sebree, Kentucky. We were the first people not involved with the project to shoot the new gun. In two days we ran a couple of hundred rounds apiece through the 105s at pheasants, quail, and flighted mallards. The guns functioned with light game loads and high velocity waterfowl ammo alike, handling smartly and soaking up recoil. I should mention that the guns we shot were not final production models. They did exhibit a couple of small glitches with the trigger and extractor that have already been fixed as of this writing.

The 105 CTi has been a long time in getting off the drawing board and into the hands of shooters (I think the “05” in its model number refers to its intended year of release). It will be available at first with a satin-finished walnut stock and blued metal, in 12 gauge with either a 26 or 28-inch overbored barrel. The gun lists for about $1200, and, frankly, I had expected a higher price tag after looking at and shooting it. Remington plans to have them available before mid-year.

  Vildsvin i England
Posted by: Kima - 13-02-2006, 10:20 AM - Forum: Danske nyheder - Ingen svar

Posted by: ran - 13-02-2006, 04:17 AM - Forum: Danske nyheder - Ingen svar

Cheney accidentally shoots fellow hunter

'Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good'

Harry Whittington, a 78-year-old lawyer, was in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and wounded a companion during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, spraying the fellow hunter in the face and chest with shotgun pellets.

Harry Whittington, a millionaire attorney from Austin, was "alert and doing fine" in a Corpus Christi hospital Sunday after he was shot by Cheney on a ranch in south Texas, said Katharine Armstrong, the property's owner.

He was described as in stable condition by Yvonne Wheeler, spokeswoman for the Christus Spohn Health System in Corpus Christi.

Armstrong in an interview with The Associated Press said Whittington, 78, was mostly injured on his right side, with the pellets hitting his cheek, neck and chest during the incident which occurred late afternoon on Saturday

She said emergency personnel traveling with Cheney tended to Whittington until the ambulance arrived.

Cheney's spokeswoman, Lea Anne McBride, said the vice president was with Whittington and his wife at the hospital on Sunday.

The shooting was first reported by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. The vice president's office did not disclose the accident until nearly 24 hours after it happened.

Ranch owner: Cheney was very apologetic
Armstrong said she was watching from a car while Cheney, Whittington and another hunter got out of the vehicle to shoot at a covey of quail.

Whittington shot a bird and went to look for it in the tall grass, while Cheney and the third hunter walked to another spot and discovered a second covey.

Whittington "came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn't signal them or indicate to them or announce himself," Armstrong said.

"The vice president didn't see him," she continued. "The covey flushed and the vice president picked out a bird and was following it and shot. And by God, Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good."

Whittington has been a private practice attorney in Austin since 1950 and has long been active in Texas Republican politics. He's been appointed to several state boards, including when then-Gov. George W. Bush named him to the Texas Funeral Service Commission.

Whittington owns property in Travis County worth at least $11 million, the Austin American-Statesman reported last year, not counting a downtown block at the center of a long-running dispute with the city over a condemnation issue.

Armstrong, owner of the Armstrong Ranch where the accident occurred, said Whittington was bleeding and Cheney was very apologetic.

"It broke the skin," she said of the shotgun pellets. "It knocked him silly. But he was fine. He was talking. His eyes were open. It didn't get in his eyes or anything like that."

"Fortunately, the vice president has got a lot of medical people around him and so they were right there and probably more cautious than we would have been," she said. "The vice president has got an ambulance on call, so the ambulance came."

Cheney is an avid hunter who makes annual hunting trips to South Dakota to hunt pheasants. He also travels frequently to Arkansas to hunt ducks.

Armstrong said Cheney is a longtime friend who comes to the ranch to hunt about once a year and is "a very safe sportsman."

She said Whittington is a regular, too, but she thought it was the first time the two men hunted together.

"This is something that happens from time to time. You now, I've been peppered pretty well myself," said Armstrong.
